June 28 - Paul Bunyan Day
The legend of Paul Bunyan dates back to the 1800’s. This legend is believed to originate from French Canadians during the Papineau rebellion of 1837. There are many tales of Paul Bunyan that have been turned into children’s books, including stories of how Paul scooped out the Great Lakes to get water for his big blue ox named Babe. They also say the 10,000 lakes of Minnesota were formed from Paul and Babe’s foot prints when they were wandering through a blizzard.
